When should I install cupboard locks?

Install cupboard locks as soon as your baby starts to crawl, typically between 6 and 10 months. Many parents install them a few weeks before crawling begins, so they're in place and tested before baby becomes mobile. UK government safety guidance and NHS health visitors both recommend cupboard locks on any storage containing cleaning products, medicines, sharp tools, alcohol, or anything that could be a choking hazard.

What's the difference between magnetic and adhesive cupboard locks?

Magnetic cupboard locks are completely invisible from the outside — they install inside the cupboard with adhesive pads and are only released by holding a magnetic key against the cupboard front. Adhesive (or strap-style) locks are visible from the outside and open with a release mechanism. Magnetic locks are more discreet and harder for toddlers to defeat once they figure out how visible locks work, but require slightly more setup time.

Do cupboard locks damage cupboards or doors?

No. Our cupboard locks install using strong adhesive pads, requiring no drilling, screws, or permanent fixings. The adhesive holds securely for years of use but can be removed cleanly when the lock is no longer needed, leaving no marks or damage to the cupboard. This makes them ideal for rented homes, kitchens with painted or veneered cupboards, and anyone wanting a non-permanent safety solution.

Where should I install cupboard locks in my home?

Install cupboard locks on any storage at toddler height containing hazards. Priority locations include under-sink cupboards (cleaning products), bathroom cabinets (medicines, razors), kitchen drawers (knives, scissors), garage or utility cupboards (chemicals, tools), and any low storage with breakable items. Higher cupboards (above 1.5m) are usually safe without locks, but consider how climbing risk evolves as your child grows.

How many cupboard locks do I need?

Most UK family homes need between 8 and 15 cupboard locks for full baby-proofing. A typical setup includes: 2-4 in the kitchen (under sink, dishwasher, knife drawer, low cupboards), 1-2 in the bathroom (medicine cabinet), 2-3 in the utility or laundry room, and 1-3 in living areas (TV cabinet, storage drawers).
