Maternity knickers that sit under or over your bump
The main choice with maternity knickers is where the waistband sits.
The Under the Bump Knickers sit low, with a crossover waistband that stretches with your hips and rests under the bump, and they're the cooler of the two. The Over the Bump Knickers have a high front that comes up over the bump and stays put, and the Over the Bump Thong does the same without a line under fitted clothes.
Every style is 71% Tencel™ Modal with no tags, and a three-layer gusset for the extra discharge and small leaks pregnancy brings. For after the birth, our high-waisted Postpartum Knickers are made for the bleeding and sit above a C-section incision, and the Maternity Knicker Set gives you one under-bump pair and one postpartum pair in the same size.
Sizes go by your dress size from before pregnancy, from S (6 to 10) to XL (18 to 22), and each style has its own size guide.
Questions, answered.
Should I choose under-bump or over-bump?
Under-bump sits lower and is cooler, which many people prefer earlier in pregnancy and in warm weather. Over-bump covers the bump and keeps it warm, which tends to suit later pregnancy and winter, and plenty of people have both and switch as the bump grows.
What size should I order?
Go by your dress size from before pregnancy; you don't need extra room for the bump, because the fabric stretches as you grow. They come up small, so if you fall between two sizes, take the bigger one, and for the thong and the knicker set, take one size up from your usual.
When should I switch to maternity knickers?
When your usual knickers start to dig in at the waist, leave marks or roll down under the bump. There's no set week, and because these stretch as you grow, you shouldn't need a bigger size each trimester.
Can I wear them after the birth?
Once you're past the first weeks, yes. For the bleeding straight after the birth, and over a C-section incision, our high-waisted Postpartum Knickers are the ones made for it, with a gusset designed for postpartum bleeding.
Can I return maternity knickers?
Not once they've been opened, for hygiene reasons. Buy one pair to try before you buy a pack.
