Leggings need to stay up over a nappy, survive a lot of crawling and come out of the wash looking the same. Ours are a soft rib knit, 67% bamboo with cotton and a little elastane, with an elasticated waist that sits over a nappy without digging in.
The rib stretches at the knee and springs back, so they don't bag after a day on the floor, and they pull down and back up easily at change time.
Buy a single pair, a pack of two or three in colours that go together, or a set with a matching short or long sleeve bodysuit. They're the same rib and colours as our bodysuits, so the whole range mixes.
Sizes start at 0-3 months, because most newborns live in sleepsuits. The size guide gives the length and waist of each size, and as they're cut to fit up to two months longer, take the smaller size if your baby's between two.

What size should I order?
Use the size guide, which gives the length and waist of each size, from 27.5cm long at 0-3 months to 46.5cm at 18-24 months. They're cut to fit up to two months longer, so if your baby's on the edge of two sizes, take the smaller one. You can exchange them within 30 days of your order if they're unworn and unwashed, with the tags on.
Why do they start at 0-3 months?
Newborns mostly live in sleepsuits, and leggings come into their own a little later, once your baby spends more time upright and out and about. For the first weeks, a bodysuit and a sleepsuit are the easier start.
Can they be worn as everyday trousers?
Yes. Wear them with a top as an everyday outfit, or over a bodysuit when it's cooler; the waist is cut to sit over a nappy, so they work as trousers from the first size.
Will they stay up once my baby is crawling?
They should. The waist holds them over the nappy through crawling, climbing and being carried, and the rib recovers its shape instead of stretching out through the day.
How many pairs will I need?
Two is usually plenty before your baby crawls. Once they're on the move, three or four in each size, because the knees take a beating and they'll be washed more often.
