Pregnancy support belts and bump bands

As your bump gets heavier, it pulls on your lower back and pelvis, and by the afternoon even a short walk can feel like hard work. Both of these take some of that weight from underneath, and both fasten with velcro, so they're quick to adjust.

The Pregnancy Support Belt comes in three parts you add as you grow: a soft belly band under your bump, a wide back section, and a strap over the top for the most support later on. The Pregnancy Support Band is one wide piece with a soft bamboo lining, on in seconds, for lighter everyday support.

The belt comes in S to XXL and the band in One Size or XL, for a bigger bump or twins. Each comes with a book of exercises for each trimester.

Questions, answered.

When should I start wearing one?

When your bump starts pulling on your back or pelvis; there's no set week. The belt's fitting guide suggests the belly band from about 12 weeks, the back section from 20 and the top strap from 30, but go by how you feel.

Will it help with back or pelvic pain?

It won't make back pain or pelvic girdle pain go away, and neither the belt nor the band is a medical device. What they do is take some of your bump's weight from underneath and support your lower back, which is why people with an aching back or pelvis wear them for walks and at work. If the pain is bad or stops you getting about, tell your midwife.

What size do I need?

Measure round your body just under your bump. At full stretch the belt fits 70cm to 100cm in S, up to 110cm to 140cm in XXL, and the band's One Size fits 70cm to 140cm, with the XL going to 160cm. Unused belts and bands can be exchanged within 30 days of your order, with the tags on.

Should I choose the belt or the band?

The belt if you want the most support, especially later in pregnancy, as its back section and top strap build on the belly band. The band if you want one piece that wraps under your bump and goes on in seconds.

Can I wear it all day?

Wear it while you're up and about, and take it off when you're resting. Loosen it or take it off if it pinches, feels numb or makes it harder to breathe, and check with your midwife or GP before you start if you have problems with your circulation or blood pressure.
