Peri Bottle Instructions

Welcome to the journey of postpartum recovery and self-care.

Childbirth is a remarkable testament to a woman’s strength, resilience, and the incredible ability to bring new life into the world with courage and grace.

Yet, all too often, the focus shifts entirely to the baby, leaving a mother’s own needs overlooked—no matter how caring and supportive her village may be. But your postpartum recovery is just as important. Prioritising your healing allows you to regain strength and care for your little one with confidence.

Whether you’ve had a vaginal birth, interventions, or a C-section, the peri bottle will be your best friend in those first few weeks of healing.

We’re here to support you—one soothing squirt at a time. 💦

Step by Step Guide to Using the BABYGO® Peri Bottle:

After childbirth, your body needs gentle care to heal. A peri bottle is a simple yet essential tool for postpartum hygiene, helping to cleanse the perineal area and promote healing.

While our Peri Bottle is designed with simplicity in mind, we often see new mums holding it, wondering, "where do I even start?"

Luckily, we have you covered, with our simple step-by-step guide!

Step One: Fill it up.

We advise using lukewarm water for a soothing effect. Some new mums add witch hazel or a few drops of postpartum-safe perineal wash for extra healing and comfort.

Screw the lid on securely and extend the nozzle firmly.

Step Two: Position the bottle.

Hold the button upside down, whilst sitting over the toilet, shower or bath, aiming the angled spout toward the perineal area.

💡 Many mums use the peri bottle while urinating to help dilute the urine, reducing stinging and discomfort you may experience when using the bathroom. 💡

Step Three: Gently squeeze.

Gently squeeze the bottle to create a soothing stream of water that helps cleanse and refresh the delicate postpartum area.

Step Five: Rinse and Repeat.

Instead of wiping, pat the area dry with a soft, unscented toilet paper or postpartum pad. (If you're feeling too sore or uncomfortable to pat dry, you can take a moment to air dry for added comfort)

Step Six: Rinse and Repeat.

Empty contents, rinse and leave to air dry. If the bottle requires further cleaning, wash the bottle with warm, soapy bottle and allow to air dry. You can also sanitise the bottle by boiling it occasionally or using sanitising wipes.

Use the Peri Bottle each time you use the bathroom, especially during the first few weeks postpartum. Continue using the peri bottle as long as you feel it provides comfort and support during your recovery. Once you no longer feel the need for it, you can stop incorporating it into your routine.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How often should I use my peri bottle?

It’s recommended to use the peri bottle after every trip to the bathroom, especially during the first few weeks postpartum. This helps keep the area clean and soothes discomfort as you heal. However, every recovery journey is unique, so you can adjust how often you use it based on what feels best for you.

If you’ve experienced tearing, an episiotomy, or required forceps during delivery, you may find yourself reaching for the peri bottle more often and for a longer period, as the area may be extra tender and sensitive.

Similarly, if you've had a C-section, the peri bottle can be incredibly helpful due to reduced mobility and tender scar tissue during recovery. It allows you to cleanse yourself easily and comfortably without the need for excessive bending or movement.

Can I use anything other than water?

Of course. You do need to be mindful with what you use in the early weeks into your postpartum recovery due to the added sensitivity you will experience. Some women do like to add some witch hazel or postpartum-safe perineal wash for the added comfort and support.

You could also add a small amount of dissolved epsom salt in warm water to help aid your recovery and help with any swelling you're experiencing.

How long should I use a peri bottle?

Many women tend to use the peri bottle for the first few weeks until your tenderness and swelling have subsided, but you can continue to use this as long as it feels beneficial to you.

Should I pack a peri bottle in my hospital bag?

A peri bottle is a postpartum essential, providing soothing relief and cleanliness during recovery. Keep it by your toilet for easy access and make it part of your routine for a smoother healing process. It's an ideal addition to your hospital bag, ensuring you have it on hand for comfort after delivery — whether your hospital stay is short or long.

Is the peri bottle just for postpartum use?

While the peri bottle is essential for postpartum care, its versatility extends far beyond that. It’s also perfect for post-surgery hygiene, soothing haemorrhoids, relieving genital irritation, managing skin conditions, and maintaining comfort during menstruation. The gentle, directed stream of water makes it an invaluable tool for various health and personal care needs.
