When your baby starts crawling, the jobs come all at once: the cupboard under the sink, the oven door, the stairs and the corners of the coffee table. This is our child safety range, from hidden magnetic cupboard locks and a baby gate to safety straps, window restrictors, door handle locks, corner protectors and plug socket covers.
Everything here fits without drilling. The locks, straps, door stoppers and corner protectors stick on with 3M™ adhesive, which needs 24 hours to set, and the gate is held in place by pressure, so it all suits a rented home. There are screws in the lock boxes if you'd rather fix the busiest cupboards for good.
If you're doing the whole house, start with a kit. The Baby Proofing Kit has eight magnetic cupboard locks, an oven lock, safety straps, corner protectors, door stops and socket covers, and the Home Safety Kit puts that kit in one box with one or two of our baby gates. Single products fill the gaps, such as window restrictors for upstairs or extra locks for a big kitchen.
The cupboard locks, straps, oven lock and door handle lock are tested to EN 16948:2017, and the gate to EN 1930:2011.
Questions, answered.
Where should I start baby proofing?
For most homes, the kitchen and the stairs. The kitchen is where the cleaning products, the pan drawer and the oven door are, so start with the cupboard locks there, then gate the stairs. After that, work through the bathroom, the living room and any upstairs windows.
Will the adhesive hold, and will it mark anything?
On a clean, dry, smooth surface, yes: wipe the spot, press firmly and leave it 24 hours before you test it. The 3M™ adhesive is designed to come off without lasting damage, but textured, painted or porous surfaces hold far less reliably.
Is one kit enough for a whole house?
For most homes, yes. The Baby Proofing Kit doesn't include a gate or window restrictors, though, so add those if you have stairs or live above the ground floor; the Home Safety Kit adds the gate.
Can I use the baby gate at the top of the stairs?
No. Our gate is a pressure fit, made for doorways and the bottom of the stairs, and for the top of the stairs RoSPA and nidirect advise a gate that screws into the wall. It fits openings from 76 to 83cm, so measure at the height it will sit before you order.
How much is delivery?
Standard UK delivery is £3.99, or free over £40. The Baby Gate is sent as a large item by DPD at £5.99, which free delivery doesn't cover.
