What is in the Home Safety Kit?

Our Baby Proofing Kit and our Baby Gate together, with the option of one gate or two. The proofing kit covers cupboards, drawers, corners, doors and the oven, and the gate covers the stairs or a doorway. Between them they handle the two highest-risk areas of a home, which are the kitchen and the stairs, in a single purchase.

Should I get one gate or two?

Two if you have a staircase, because a flight needs securing at both ends and a single gate leaves half the problem. One is usually enough if you are dividing a room or blocking a single doorway such as the kitchen. Families with an open-plan downstairs often use the second gate on the kitchen doorway instead, which is the other high-risk area alongside the stairs.

Is the bundle cheaper than buying both separately?

Yes, that is the point of it, and it is the most straightforward way to cover a house in one order rather than working out what you need piece by piece. It is also the version most people buy as a gift for expectant parents or for grandparents setting up a house their grandchildren visit.

How long will it take to fit everything?

Plan an afternoon. The gate takes around five minutes and the proofing kit is the bulk of the work, particularly the kitchen. Use the placement stickers to check alignment before committing any adhesive, and leave everything a full 24 hours to cure before testing it properly. Working room by room rather than product by product is the quicker way through it.

Is this enough to baby proof a whole house?

It covers the main hazards, but two things are not included and most homes need them: window restrictors for any window above ground floor, and furniture straps if you have chests of drawers, bookcases or a freestanding television that a child could climb. Add those and you have a genuinely comprehensive setup.
