No. The lock keeps the oven door closed against little hands, which addresses the two real risks of a curious toddler opening a hot door or pulling a hot tray out. It does not affect the oven itself. For the heat radiating from the door while cooking, the answer is keeping children out of the kitchen at those times, which is what a stair gate or door handle lock is for.
It is fitted with strong 3M™ adhesive pads positioned away from the hottest part of the door, so it holds under normal oven use. Fit it to a completely cold, clean, dry oven and leave it a full 24 hours to cure before the oven is used, because curing adhesive on a warm surface is the main reason a fixing fails early. Check it periodically as part of your usual safety review.
Yes. The lock can be activated and deactivated at any time, so it is out of the way when you are cooking and engaged when you are not. Adults operate it easily, and the mechanism is deliberately stiff enough that a small child cannot. Most people leave it deactivated while cooking and re-engage it once the kitchen is quiet.
It suits standard domestic ovens with a conventional door and handle, which covers most UK kitchens. Range cookers and ovens with unusual handle designs are worth measuring first. The fixing needs a flat, smooth section of the door or surround to bond to, so heavily textured or curved fascias are the ones to check before ordering.
Probably not for the controls, but the two things are different. A built-in child lock usually disables the control panel so settings cannot be changed, while this lock physically stops the door being opened. If your oven already has a door lock rather than just a control lock, you are covered. If it only locks the controls, the door is still the risk.

    Simple adult release: still impressed after regular use
