For the first weeks at home with a new baby
The first weeks at home are feeds, nappy changes and broken nights, while you recover from the birth.
For your baby, the zip sleepsuits open from the ankle, so a night-time nappy change doesn't mean undressing them, and the sleeping bags come in five TOGs to suit the room. The large muslins are 120cm square, big enough to swaddle a newborn, and the AirMesh™ carrier has three carry positions.
For you, there are high-waisted postpartum knickers, soft nursing bras, a peri bottle and postpartum belts, from the light Comfort+ to the firmer Support+. Nursing pillows take your baby's weight during feeds, the Moon Pregnancy Pillow becomes a feeding pillow and backrest after the birth, and if you're expressing, there's the Air™ pump, single or double, with disposable and reusable milk bags.
Questions, answered.
Should I buy for the baby or for me first?
It's easy to buy everything for the baby and forget yourself. Postpartum knickers, a bra you can feed in and a peri bottle are things you'll want within hours of the birth, so pack those in your hospital bag first.
What size should I buy for a newborn?
Go by length rather than age. Newborn fits babies from 45 to 55cm and 0-3m from 53 to 63cm, and our single sleepsuits also come in Tinybaby, for babies up to 45cm. They're made to fit up to two months longer, so if your baby is on the edge of two sizes, take the smaller one.
Can a newborn sleep in a sleeping bag straight away?
Only once the neck fits closely, so your baby can't slip down inside. A small newborn may need a few weeks to grow into the 0-9M, which has a 10cm neck; until then, use a light swaddle or a sheet tucked in below the shoulders.
Which TOG sleeping bag should I choose?
Go by the temperature of the room at night, not the weather outside. Most UK bedrooms sit at 16 to 20°C, which is 2.5 TOG, or 1.5 TOG if the room stays at 18 to 20°C. Below 16°C choose 3.5 TOG, from 21 to 23°C 1.0 TOG and from 24°C 0.5 TOG, and never put a blanket on top.
Can I return things if they're not right?
Most things come with 30 day returns if they're unused, with the tags on. Knickers and breast pumps can't be returned once opened, for hygiene reasons.
