Postpartum knickers for after the birth and after a C-section
After the birth you'll change your knickers more often than usual, and every pair needs to hold a pad, stay up and keep off a sore tummy. Everything here is 71% Tencel™ Modal, soft and stretchy with no tags, with a three-layer gusset for postpartum bleeding and small leaks.
The main choice is where the waistband sits. Our Postpartum Knickers come up high, above a C-section incision, with a gentle hold over your tummy. The C-section Knickers are low-rise and sit below the incision line, and because they're the same knicker as our Under the Bump pair, they work in pregnancy too.
The Postpartum Thong has the same high waist without the lines, for once the heavy bleeding has settled, and the Postpartum Underwear Set pairs the high-waisted knickers with our Maternity Bra.
Everything comes singly or in packs, and it all comes up small, so take one size up from your usual.
Questions, answered.
Which postpartum knickers are best after a C-section?
Whichever keeps the waistband where you'd rather it sat. The Postpartum Knickers come up high and sit above the incision, while the C-section Knickers are low-rise and sit below it, and both have the same soft fabric and gusset. If anything rubs or presses on the wound, take them off and mention it to your midwife.
What size should I order?
One size up from your usual knickers: by dress size, S is 6 to 10, M 10 to 14, L 14 to 18 and XL 18 to 22. They're cut small, and a pair that's too tight tends to roll down onto the place you're trying to protect, so if you're between two sizes, take the bigger one.
How many pairs will I need?
More than usual, because you'll change often while you're bleeding, which can go on for two to six weeks. Five to seven pairs means the washing never becomes urgent, so a multipack is a good place to start.
Do I still need maternity pads?
In the first few days, yes, because that's when bleeding is heaviest. As it eases, many people find the gusset copes on its own.
Can I return them if the size is wrong?
Not once they've been opened. For hygiene reasons we can't take knickers back or exchange them, even if they haven't been worn, so check the size guide before you order, or buy one pair first to check the fit. If they arrive faulty or damaged, contact us and we'll put it right.
