The stopper cushions the door edge so the door cannot close fully onto a hand, whether that is from a draught, a sibling or a gust when a window is open. They also stop doors slamming, which is a useful side effect when there is a baby sleeping.

No. They fit with super strong 3M™ adhesive: clean the door edge, dry it fully, press the stopper on and leave it to cure. No tools, no drilling and no lasting damage to the door, which makes them suitable for rented homes. Painted doors hold well provided the paint itself is sound and not flaking.
They suit standard internal doors, which covers the great majority of UK homes. Very heavy fire doors and doors with unusual profiles or deep mouldings on the edge are the exceptions, since the stopper needs a flat section of door edge to bond to. Check the edge is flat and smooth where you plan to fit it before removing the adhesive backing.
One per door that a child regularly passes through, which for most homes is between two and four. The priority doors are the ones between the rooms children move between most, typically kitchen, living room and hallway. Bedroom doors matter too if they swing shut in a draught, which is exactly the situation where fingers get caught.
