My lock is not catching properly. What have I done wrong?

Almost always it is alignment. The catch on the cupboard door and the latch on the frame have to line up within a few millimetres, and if the door sits slightly proud the catch passes underneath without engaging. Use the placement sticker supplied to mark the position before committing the adhesive, close the door to test the alignment, and only then press it home. If a cupboard opens as though no lock is fitted, this is the cause.

Will the adhesive hold, and will it damage my kitchen?

The 3M™ adhesive pads come ready fitted and hold well on smooth, clean, dry surfaces, which covers most kitchen cupboards. Wipe the area with something that leaves no residue and let it dry fully first, since grease is the usual reason a pad lets go. Allow a full 24 hours to cure before testing a lock with any force. Removal is designed not to leave lasting damage, which is what makes them workable in rented homes.

How many locks do I need for a typical kitchen?

Most kitchens need somewhere between six and ten, once you count the under-sink cupboard, the cleaning cupboard, bin drawers and any low cupboard holding glass or heavy pans. You do not need to lock everything. Leaving one or two safe low cupboards accessible, with plastic bowls and wooden spoons in them, gives a toddler somewhere they are allowed to explore and takes a good deal of pressure off the rest.

Can I turn them off once my children are older?

Yes. The locks can be deactivated whenever you like, so cupboards open normally without removing any hardware. That is worth knowing if you are fitting them at a grandparent's house, where the arrangement is far more popular if cupboards work normally when no children are visiting. You can switch them back on at any time.

What if I lose the magnetic key?

It happens often enough that we sell replacement keys separately. Each replacement mounts to the wall with 3M™ adhesive, and the sensible approach is to keep one key mounted in every room where you have fitted locks rather than carrying a single key around the house. Losing the only key is the most common reason people end up prising at their own cupboards.

Discreet safety for cupboards
Items are perfect for keeping my grandson out of the cupboards. Worked even on thick cabinet doors. A bit fiddly to install but once Id worked it out it was plain sailing.
