What should I buy for a baby due in winter?
A 2.5 TOG sleeping bag for a nursery at 16 to 20 degrees, long-sleeved bamboo bodysuits to layer under sleepsuits, and a baby carrier so you can keep baby warm against you on walks. For yourself, a second pair of maternity leggings and a nursing sleep bra are the items winter mums most often say they should have bought sooner. The autumn sale is the cheapest point to buy all of them before the cold arrives.
When should I switch to a warmer sleeping bag?
When the nursery drops below about 18 degrees overnight, which for most UK homes happens in October. Up to then a 1.5 TOG suits rooms of 18 to 21 degrees; below that, move to 2.5 TOG for 16 to 18. Check with a room thermometer rather than the calendar, because a well insulated flat stays warmer than a draughty house. Adjust the layers baby wears underneath using the guide on the bag's label rather than adding blankets.
Are summer prints reduced in the autumn sale?
Yes. Short-sleeved bodysuits, 0.5 TOG sleeping bags and summer prints are cleared to make room for winter stock, and these are the items that will not return until next spring. If you have a baby who will be 6-12 months next summer, buying that size now at the sale price is sensible, because sizing does not change between print runs. Plain everyday sleepsuits are restocked year round, so there is no need to stockpile those.
Do autumn sale orders qualify for free delivery?
Yes, on any order over £40 to the UK mainland, and the threshold is worked out on the discounted total you actually pay rather than the original prices. Below £40, standard delivery is £3.99 and takes 2 to 3 working days. Premium Next Day is £7.99 on any order value. Northern Ireland orders are £9.99, and large items such as birthing balls may travel separately by DPD.
Is there a return fee on autumn sale items?
Only if you did not add Returns+ at checkout, in which case £4.99 is deducted from the refund to cover the label; with Returns+ the return is free. Sale lines follow the terms on our Returns page, which currently excludes some sale and discontinued stock, so check the product page before you order. Where a return is accepted the window is 30 days from the order date and the item must be unworn with tags attached.
