An oven lock that keeps the door shut against little hands

To a toddler, the oven door is one of the most interesting things in the kitchen, and it's also the hottest. This lock keeps it shut: a squeeze and a twist opens it for you, and the mechanism is too stiff for a small child to work.

It sticks on with strong 3M™ adhesive pads, so there's no drilling and nothing to screw into the door or your kitchen.

Turn the lock off while you're cooking and back on when you've finished.

Will it fit my oven?

It suits standard ovens with a conventional door, which covers most UK kitchens. The pads need a flat, smooth section of the door or its surround to stick to, so check curved or heavily textured fronts, and measure a range cooker first.

Will the adhesive cope with the heat?

Yes, in normal use, because the pads sit away from the hottest part of the door. Fit it to a completely cold, clean, dry oven and leave it a full 24 hours before you turn the oven on, so the adhesive has time to cure.

How do I open it?

Squeeze and twist, and another twist locks it again. It takes a try or two to get the knack, then it's quick for you and too stiff for a toddler.

Do I need one if my oven has a child lock?

Check what yours locks. A built-in child lock usually locks the controls, so the settings can't be changed, but the door still opens. This keeps the door itself shut. If your oven already locks its door, you're covered.

Does it stop the oven door getting hot?

No. It keeps the door closed, but the door still gets hot while the oven's on, so keep little ones out of the kitchen while you cook; a stair gate or a door handle lock helps with that.

Simple adult release: still impressed after regular use
