Rinsing with warm water while you use the toilet after birth. The angled spout directs the water where you need it without you having to twist or reach, so it dilutes urine as it passes and cleans without wiping. It is one of the least glamorous items on any postpartum list and consistently one of the most appreciated in the first two weeks.
Yes. Even after a C-section there is still perineal healing and bleeding to manage, and the bottle avoids reaching and twisting at a point when your abdomen is sore and bending is difficult. Many people find it easier than wiping for the first couple of weeks regardless of how they gave birth.
Fill with warm water, not hot. Use it while you are on the toilet, aiming from front to back, and again afterwards instead of wiping. Pat dry gently with a clean towel or tissue rather than rubbing. Some people add nothing at all to the water, which is fine, and it is best not to add anything without checking with your midwife first.
In your hospital bag, because the first time you will want it is within hours of giving birth rather than once you get home. It is small and travel-friendly, so it takes up almost no room. Plenty of people also keep a second one at home so there is one on each floor in the early days.
Rinse it inside and out with hot soapy water after each use and let it air dry, standing it upside down so water drains rather than pooling in the spout. It is used in a healing area, so a quick daily rinse in hot soapy water is worth the small effort. Replace it once you no longer need it rather than keeping it indefinitely.

    The water flow is gentle

    The water flow is gentle but strong enough to be useful. It made bathroom trips feel far less daunting. A very worthwhile purchase.
