How big are the muslins and how many do I get?

Three cloths per pack, each a generous 120cm by 120cm. That size is deliberate: it is big enough to swaddle a newborn properly, which most standard muslins are not, while still working as a burp cloth, pram cover, changing mat or feeding cover. One large cloth genuinely does replace several smaller ones, which is why we sell them in this size rather than the usual 70cm squares.

What are they made from?

70% bamboo and 30% cotton. Bamboo gives the softness and breathability that matters against newborn skin, while the cotton provides the structure that lets a muslin hold a swaddle without slipping. The blend also softens with every wash rather than wearing out, which is why muslins are usually the item parents keep longest.

How many muslins do I actually need?

More than you expect, and most parents settle on six to twelve in the first months. They get used for burping, mopping, swaddling, shading a pram and protecting a shoulder, and at least one is always in the wash or in the changing bag. A pack of three is a sensible starting point, and many people buy a second pack once they realise how often they reach for them.

Can I use them to swaddle safely?

Yes, at 120cm square they are large enough to swaddle a newborn properly. Keep the swaddle firm around the chest but loose around the hips so the legs can bend up and out, which supports healthy hip development. Always place a swaddled baby on their back, and stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of rolling, which is usually somewhere around three to four months.

Do they get softer over time?

Yes, noticeably. Muslin is one of the few fabrics that genuinely improves with use, and the bamboo and cotton blend opens up and softens over the first few washes. Wash at 30 degrees and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and works against that natural softening. Muslins are also the most hard-wearing thing in the drawer, which is why they are usually what parents still have long after everything else has been outgrown.
