The baby gate and the baby proofing kit, in one order
When your baby starts moving, the jobs come all at once: the stairs, the kitchen cupboards, the oven door, the corners of the coffee table. This bundle puts our baby gate and our baby proofing kit in one box.
The gate pressure-fits openings from 76cm to 83cm, so there's no drilling, and it opens both ways with one hand, then swings shut and latches behind you. It's metal, tested to EN 1930:2011, and made for doorways and the bottom of the stairs.
The kit covers what a gate can't: magnetic locks and catches for cupboards and drawers, straps for the fridge, bins and toilet seat, corner protectors, door stops and an oven lock.
It all fixes with 3M™ adhesive, and there are screws in the box if you'd rather.

Questions, answered.
Should I get one gate or two?
One covers a doorway or the bottom of the stairs. Take two if you want to close off two places, say the kitchen doorway and the bottom of the stairs. For the top of the stairs, RoSPA and nidirect advise a gate that screws into the wall.
Will the gate fit my doorway or stairs?
It fits openings from 76cm to 83cm wide, so measure at the height the gate will sit before you order. It needs two flat, solid surfaces facing each other to press against, and skirting boards, curved bannister spindles and plasterboard all affect the grip.
How long will it take to fit everything?
Plan an afternoon. The gate takes about five minutes and most of the time goes on the kitchen, so use the placement stickers to check each lock lines up before you commit the adhesive, and leave everything 24 hours to set before you test it.
Is this everything I need to baby proof?
It covers the main hazards, but not all of them. Most homes also need window restrictors on any window above the ground floor, and anti-tip straps fixed to the wall for chests of drawers, bookcases or a TV that a child could pull over.
Will it damage my walls or furniture?
There's no drilling. The gate is held in place by pressure, and the kit sticks on with 3M™ adhesive that's designed to come off without lasting damage, so it suits a rented home.
